During the initial editions of IPL, Mumbai Indians were struggling to come up, it could not show the fire. Gradually they reached the playoffs and secured a place in the top 3. MI played their first-ever IPL final in 2010 against Chennai Super Kings and secured the place of runners-up. But the 6th edition of IPL(2013) was a big game-changer for MI when Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy of the team. Rohit Sharma has led the franchise to win its First-ever IPL title that season.
Since then, MI has established itself as a strong competitor. Playing against MI is a tough competition for all the IPL teams.
The team focuses on Strong team management with an amazing set of squad. MI emphasizes having Indian Players(almost 7 out of 11) rather than overseas players in the team. They always tried to form a good team by striking a perfect mix of New/Young players and experienced players. Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Pandya Brothers, and Jasprit Bumrah have been the franchise’s core and consistent features.
Mumbai Indians have played almost all of their home matches in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Since 2017, Mahela Jayewardene is the head coach of the team.
In 2019, MI achieved the milestone to become the first-ever team to win 100+ matches in IPL. In 2020, the franchise achieved another milestone to play the fastest 200 IPL matches.
