1. Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH)
The Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise replaced Hyderabad, Telangana-based franchise Deccan Chargers in IPL 2013. The CEO and founder of Sun group Kalanithi Maran own the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. Sun Group is one of India’s largest television networks, owns 32 TV channels and 45 FM radio stations.
Kaviya Maran, Daughter of Kalanithi Maran has taken over as CEO of Sunrisers Hyderabad team. Kaviya is actively involved in SRH matches to support and cheer her team in the stadiums.
The Brand value of SRH is around 57.4 Million U.S. dollars in IPL 2020. In the last five years, the SRH franchise consecutively qualified for playoffs and have clinched the IPL trophy in 2016.
2. Chennai Super Kings(CSK)
Thrice IPL winners Chennai Super Kings is owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd. Which is a subsidiary of India Cements Limited. In 2014, The CSK franchise was transferred to CSK Cricket ltd due to some conflicts.
The managing director of India Cements N. Shriniwasan owns the CSK franchise. He has been former Chairman of ICC(International Cricket Council) and former BCCI President.
Chennai Super Kings is the 2nd most brand valued franchise in IPL with 59.8 Million U.S. dollars. CSK is 2nd most successful franchise with appearances in all playoffs except 2020.
3. Rajasthan Royals(RR) IPL team owners
The Jaipur-based franchise, Rajasthan Royals has a group of owners. Manoj Badale from Emerging Media IPL LTD is the major shareholder. he owns over 50 percent stakes in the Royals franchise. Other co-owners are Amisha Hathiramani from Tresco International LTD Nigeria, Lachlan Murdoch’s Blue Water Estate LTD owns 11.7% shares in the franchise.
The title-winning captain in the inaugural IPL season for RR, Shane Warne is brand ambassador, mentor, and co-owner with 3% shares of the franchise.
The Indian businessman Ranjit Barthakur is executive chairman of Rajasthan Royals while Mike Fordham is group CEO of the franchise. Rajasthan Royals brand value is around 36.4 Million U.S. dollars, the least among all IPL franchises.
4. Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB)
Royal Challengers Sports Private LTD owns the RCB franchise, which is a subsidiary of United Spirits LTD. A British Multinational beverage alcohol company Diago Plc is the parent company of United Spirits LTD. Anand Kripalu is Managing director and CEO of the United Spirits LTD. In 2020, Diago India’s CEO Anand Kripalu became the new owner of the franchise.
In 2008, Vijay Mallya purchased the Bangalore-based franchise. Vijay Mallya chairman or owner of the franchise till he resigned in 2016.
The brand value of the RCB franchise is 49.7 million U.S. dollars in 2020.
5. Punjab Kings team(PBKS) IPL team owners
Mohali, Punjab based franchise, Punjab Kings has multiple owners. The team is majorly owned by Dabar group Mohit Burman with 46% Shares. Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia (Wadia Group) own 23-23% Stake in the franchise. Apeejey Surrendra Group’s Chairman Karan Paul also holds 8% stakes in the franchise.
Preity Zinta has been the face of the Punjab Kings over the years. Despite the franchise is underperforming, Preity Zinta comes to support and cheer her team in every match.
Punjab King’s brand value is 38 Million U.S. dollars in 2020.
6. Delhi Capitals team(DC) IPL team owners
GMR Sports and JSW Sports own the Delhi Capital with equal 50-50% shares of the franchise. Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao and Sajjan Jindal are owners of the Delhi capitals franchise. Earlier in 2008, GMR Group purchased the Delhi-based franchise named Delhi Daredevils. Till 2018, the GMR group was the sole owner of the team. JSW sports purchased 50% shares of Delhi Daredevils from the GMR group for 550cr. Then the franchise was renamed to Delhi Capitals.
The brand value of the Delhi Capitals franchise is 52.2 Million US Dollars in 2020.
7. Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR)
Superstar Shahrukh Khan, Actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta are owners of the Kolkata Knight Riders Franchise.
SRK’s Red Chilies Entertainment owns the major 55% stakes while Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta(Mehta Group) own 45% stakes of the franchise. In the Auction of IPL 2008, Mehta Group and Red Chilies Entertainment bought the franchise in partnership.
On various occasions, Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and her husband Jay Mehta has been spotted cheering their team in the stadiums. Kolkata Knight Riders Franchise is popular among the fandom of Superstar Shahrukh Khan.
KKR Franchise is 3rd most followed and successful team of IPL with winning IPL titles twice. The brand Value of the KKR franchise is around 58.4 Million U.S. Dollars.
8. Mumbai Indians(MI)
The most successful franchise Mumbai Indians is owned by India’s Most successful businessman Mukesh Ambani, through IndiaWin Sports. At the 2008 Auction, Mumbai Indians was the most expensive franchise, purchased by Reliance Industries LTD of Mukesh Ambani for a whopping $111.9 Million.
Nita Ambani and her son Akash Ambani are actively involved in the MI team functioning. Nita Ambani manages the Mumbai Indians franchise and also cheers for her team at the grounds. Mumbai Indians is the most valued brand of IPL with a brand value of 70.3 Million U.S. dollars.
