Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale is an Indian teacher in Zilla Parishad, Paritewadi, Solapur a small village in Maharashtra. He was honored with the price for promoting & supporting girl’s education & to activate the QR textbook revolution in India. The icing on the cake was when he gave away half of $ 1 million to the other 9 finalists nominated with him.
Global Teacher Prize
The global teacher prize is paid for 10 years in equal installments with Varley Foundation, where the winners are given a platform for promoting & helping with financial advice.
Out of 12000 nominations & applications from 140 countries, Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale was selected as a top 10 finalist.
Early Life & Education
In the beginning, Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale wanted to be an IT Engineer & had registered in an engineering college. But due to some financial issue, his father pursued his education in the field of teaching.
When he reached Zilla Parishad (District Councils of India) School in 2009, it was a shaky building between the cattle shed & the storeroom. He grew his thinking as a teacher & changed the way of learning.
Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale is the true inspiration to all upcoming teachers to bring change to the education system. He wants to bring revolution in education system as he believes he can be teacher from 20th century and students from 21st century. But the modules are of the 19th century & the methodology of the 18th century. So to fulfill this gap teachers have to bring change in technology. He brought QR codes textbooks in India with updated technology support like access to audio poems, video lectures, stories, & assignments.
He has inspired many girls to be educated from tribal communities. His contribution to changing the lives of teenage girls by abandoning teenage marriage was exceptional. According to Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale, it is only through a collective effort that the country can move forward towards a bright future.
Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale is very enthusiastic about growing peace between upcoming youth across conflict zones, through his project “Let’s Cross the Borders”. He is becoming a bridge & connecting the youth from India & Pakistan, Palestine & Israel, Iran & Iraq, US & North Korea. It’s not only the duty of a government to build peace with other countries but also a common man with his efforts can make a small contribution towards peace for his nation. Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale is also well-known for giving live scientific experiment example from Science Lab that he built in his home.
Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale in his speech only spoke about the positive aspects, future scope, & thought for the teachers. He said, “the teacher in the world is real changemakers” who are transforming the lives of students towards a good education. Change is a necessity for life. Change brings innovation to the lifestyle of students.
A nice proverb, “Knowledge increases by sharing but not by saving”. Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale is a living example of sharing knowledge. He as a teacher wants to spread his knowledge with his student across borders also. He gave away half price to other finalists as this would help them to develop a good education system for the students of their respected country.
Mr. Disale decided to allocate 30% of the price money towards the teacher’s innovation fund. In India, many schools are working on an innovative idea to transform education like Druk Padma Karpo School popularly known as Rancho’s School in Ladakh.
“Stop doing old, if want something new.” This quote nicely suits the work done by Mr. Disale. Mentioning Mr. Disale, Mr. Sunny Varley, the founder of the Global Teacher Prize quoted, “sharing the prize with other finalists you teach the world the importance of giving”. He also said, “With Mr. Disale’s extra-ordinary work, now everyone should uplift & use the platform to raise the voice to be the change”.
Influence of pandemic
Covid-19 has impacted the education system closely. With big responsibility comes big challenges. During covid-19 teachers needs to showcase their knowledge & expertise virtually through online classes & make sure every student gains the knowledge.
Likewise, Mr. Disale commented on the pandemic situation that “ education & communities manifested in multiple ways. But in the tough time teachers are helping to do their best to make sure that every student enters into the bright light of education.
Special award to exceptional COVID-19 hero Jamie Frost who won $45000 for helping schools during the covid-19 pandemic. He kept students around the world in the learning stage during the lockdown. Mr. Frost’s free online coaching, “DrFrostmath” was a boon for students when all classrooms were shutdown.
Noble Work – (Global Teacher Prize Winner 2020)
Mr. Disale became the first in Maharashtra to initiate QR codes. He put forward the proposal & the state minister declared that government would initiate QR quoted textbooks across the state in 2017.
In 2018, the National Council of Education Research & Training (NCERT) textbook will embed QR codes disclosed by the Human Resource Development Ministry.
