He is most known for his portrayal of Jay Gatsby in the British supernatural horror-thriller tv series ‘Bates Motel.’ He portrayed a schizophrenic protagonist who suffers multiple personality disorders due to the severe trauma he endured as a youngster at the hands of his mother. His incredible performance in the show garnered him several nominations and the People’s Choice Award

Among his other notable achievements is his appearance in the movie ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory .’ He co-starred with Hollywood icon Johnny Depp. The picture received both critical acclaim and commercial success. Alfred Thomas “Freddie” Highmore was born in County Durham, London, UK, on 14 February 1992, to actor Edward Highmore and talent agent manager Sue Latimer. Among her clientele are well-known stars like Imelda Staunton and Daniel Radcliffe . Furthermore, he has a younger brother, Albert Highmore.

From the age of seven, he began performing in minor roles on television. He made his feature film debut in 1998 with the comic movie ‘Women Talking Dirty.’ He portrayed the leading actress’s son, who gets alienated from her partner due to his attachment phobia. 

He then appeared in the BBC television film ‘Happy Birthday Shakespeare’ that subsequent year. Following that, he starred as a youthful Arthurian Legend in the television miniseries ‘The Mists of Avalon.’

Freddie Highmore starred in a few films during the 2000s, including  “Five Children and It,” released in 2004, and “Finding Neverland,” which was also released the same year. It was via his depiction of Charles Buckets in the 2005 movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” that he gained widespread recognition. The picture, which has been produced by Tim Burton, featured him alongside well-known Movie star Johnny Depp, who played the title role. In terms of box office revenue, the picture was a big success.

In the 2007 Britain comic drama film ‘A Good Year,’ he made a guest appearance. The film, produced and directed by Ridley Scott, was partly based on a novel of the same title by Peter Mayle, published in 2004.

As the principal character in the British supernatural horror tv series ‘Bates Motel,’ he was featured in 2013. The series served as a prologue to the Alfred Hitchcock picture “Psycho,” which was released in 1960. In contrast to the movie, the show takes place in the present day, as opposed to the past. In 2013, Freddie Highmore participated in the television series Bates Motel. He played Norman Bates, the murderous protagonist of the iconic Alfred Hitchcock thriller Psycho from 1965. Bates, depicted by Freddie Highmore, was a carbon copy of the character portrayed by Anthony Perkins in the film. The Bates Motel was intended to serve as a “prequel” to the film. The play also included Vera Farmiga in the role of Norman’s mom. She had already passed away at the time of the famous movie.

After Bates Motel completed its run of 5 seasons in 2017, Freddie Highmore jumped almost immediately into The Good Doctor after receiving a screenplay barely 3 days after the season finale of Bates Motel aired.

The Good Doctor

Freddie Highmore received critical acclaim for his depiction of a young doctor with autism spectrum disorder who struggled in his connections with certain other people – including clients and co-workers – at the show’s fictitious hospital, which aired in September 2017.

However, the protagonist – Dr. Sean Murph – also seems to be a mastermind who is exceptionally competent at making diagnoses that others miss and, as a result, saves lives regularly. His brilliance also extends to his ability to undertake complex procedures that appear to be well above his early age and apparent lack of expertise.

Spiderwick Chronicles

The Spiderwick Chronicles, an epic fantasy film released in 2008, starred Freddie Highmore as the title character. The film, produced by Mark Waters, is inspired by the bestselling novel of the same title authored by Holly Black.  The story revolved around the adventures that Jonathan Grace and his youthful family discovered a guide to a place filled with magical animals.

The picture also featured Laura Fitzgerald, Mary-Louis Parker, Nick Fischer, and Ron Perlman in supporting roles and Freddie Highmore as the lead. The picture was commercially successful, and it received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
