As a boy, Ben Silbermann had a fascination for collecting dried insect stamps, etc and pinning them to card books. Yes he himself told in one of his interviews, he loved collecting different things. It was Ben’s hobby that gave onset the idea of Pinterest.
Ben Silbermann was completing his education. He had No idea what the future held for him. While studying he knew one thing for sure, this was not the career path that he wanted to take. So he makes a decision to do something he likes to do. Hence, he switched to business where he would become a consultant and work on financial spreadsheets and reports. But again he realized that he just wasn’t enjoying himself.

LOVE WHAT YOU DO, DO WHAT YOU LOVE!
He went after his dream. As they say, Always follow your dream, he took a step ahead and teamed up with his friend Paul Ciarra in New York. Together they made an iPhone app called Thoth. It was for a mobile shopping app. The app flopped and they struggled to gain any money so they decided to pivot and focus on something that they both love doing collecting things they really believed: “The things that you collected say so much about yourself.”
Evan sharp was trying to think of a platform for collecting things. They finally landed on collecting photos. In December 2009 they began working on Pinterest and released a beta version. In 2010 there was a slow start. To understand why? Ben Silbermann shared hand-wrote personal letters to the first 5,000 users giving them his personal phone number. He held meetings with some of them to gauge their interest and feedback.

Initially, they failed to place themselves in the market with their concepts but the story was not true anymore, after one year of its launch the site witnessed tremendous growth.
