Ben Silbermann was completing his education. He had No idea what the future held for him. While studying he knew one thing for sure, this was not the career path that he wanted to take. So he makes a decision to do something he likes to do. Hence, he switched to business where he would become a consultant and work on financial spreadsheets and reports. But again he realized that he just wasn’t enjoying himself.

Ben Silbermann really wanted to create a product. A creative mind wanted to explore so he moved to Silicon Valley. Initially, he started to work for Google but yes one time again he was in the consulting position and he didn’t enjoy himself. So he left again but this time he learned his lesson!

He went after his dream. As they say, Always follow your dream, he took a step ahead and teamed up with his friend Paul Ciarra in New York. Together they made an iPhone app called Thoth. It was for a mobile shopping app. The app flopped and they struggled to gain any money so they decided to pivot and focus on something that they both love doing collecting things they really believed: “The things that you collected say so much about yourself.”

Evan sharp was trying to think of a platform for collecting things. They finally landed on collecting photos. In December 2009 they began working on Pinterest and released a beta version. In 2010 there was a slow start. To understand why? Ben Silbermann shared hand-wrote personal letters to the first 5,000 users giving them his personal phone number. He held meetings with some of them to gauge their interest and feedback.

Wow, some Major customer retention goals. “Improvement helps to build a path to success” is a true quote shared by Ben Silbermann.

Ben Silbermann has said that for them the first 100 to 1,000 users on your platform are incredibly valuable it is their duty to take them seriously. Initially, they failed to place themselves in the market with their concepts but the story was not true anymore, after one year of its launch the site witnessed tremendous growth. It did win the attention of more than eleven million Internet users across the World.

Same year Pinterest incredibly named one of the 50 best websites of 2011 by Time magazine. The following year it won the webby award for the best social media App. Today Pinterest has over 20 million users worldwide. The co-founders are the three best innovators of their time. According to Forbes magazine, Ben Silbermann is the 12th richest American entrepreneur under the age of 40 as of 2016.
